Black Lives Matter Shows Off a Hypocrisy on Race

On June 6, Fox News political commentator Tucker Carlson had Black Lives Matter supporter Lisa Durden join his nightly program Tucker Carlson Tonight. The segment in which Durden was invited to join was to discuss the recent ‘blacks-only’ Memorial Day party which took place on May 27. The party was put on and promoted by a New York City chapter of the Black Lives Matter movement.

Referred to as “The People’s Turn-Up,” a party that was intended to be “unapologetically black,” the event’s Facebook page bragged about how the celebrations were only for those who identified as black. According to Black Lives Matter NYC, “Being intentional about being around Black People is an act of resistance. This is exclusively Black Space” The chapter then added, “…So if you do not identify as Black and want to come because you love Black People, please respect the space and do not come.”

So, the organization, like most social reform activist groups, asks for their own exclusive ‘Black Space’ for their own Memorial Day party while at the same attempting to preach a message of inclusion and acceptance regardless of a person’s skin color.

Tucker Carlson realized this great contradiction and wasted no time during his program to confront Durden during with a question centered around that exact thought. “I thought the whole point of Black Lives Matter was to speak out against singling out people based on race?” Carlson asked the avid BLM supporter.

Apparently amused by this perfectly legitimate question, Durden responded “Boo-hoo, you white people are angry because you couldn’t use your ‘white privilege’ card to get invited to the Black Lives Matter all-black Memorial Day celebration.”

Carlson again asked Durden why BLM would go against the very foundation of their argument which is to not exclude on the basis of skin color while simultaneously hosting a party that excludes anyone who does not ‘identify’ as white.

Durden, again avoiding the question, something she did throughout the entirety of the segment, which can be viewed at the end of this article, claimed that Caucasians have “been [celebrating] ‘White Day’ forever,” citing the reality show “Bachelorette” as a contributor by not having a non-white ‘Bachelorette’ until the 12th season of the show airing.

However, Durden forgets to note the existence of the cable and satellite television channel “BET,” which stands for ‘Black Entertainment Television.’ Not only is there an entire channel devoted to non-whites, but the channel itself has its own BET Awards show which was first established in 2001 to ‘celebrate African Americans and other minorities in music, acting, sports, and other fields of entertainment over the past year.’

The exclusively black Memorial Day party and the response from an activist like Lisa Durden further provide the examples for why the Black Lives Matter movement as a whole is a hypocritical social movement.

Let us look at this whole situation by simply reversing the roles in the particular scenario. What if a group of white people in New York City publicly announced a ‘White-only’ Memorial Day party? Do you think those festivities would be met with the same openness from BLM supporters as the ‘Black-only’ event that was actually put on in New York City? My senses point to no.

Here is why my senses point to no in that particular situation: a party of any type that rejects its party-goers on the basis of their skin color is inherently prejudice.

Members and supporters of Black Lives Matter believe that racism only exists if a black person is on the receiving end of a racist act. This is ignorant. A racist act is still a racist act even if a non-black person or group is on the receiving end of a certain action.

Black Lives Matter activists have already discredited themselves enough through the spread of their nonsensical claims that America is an institutionally racist nation. However, doing things like throwing and celebrating a ‘black-only’ Memorial Day party not only further discredit the organization as a whole, but continue to support the claim that BLM activists are a problem when it comes to deteriorating race relations in the United States.

I agree with these reasons why Black Americans need Black spaces. To say “what if we had white only spaces” and I say are you serious!? It’s a disconnect and proves the need for “Black Spaces” – reasons 4 and 5 in this article will clear it up for you! – https://everydayfeminism.com/2015/09/why-need-black-only-spaces/
