With less than 24 hours until Israelis vote in general elections, party leaders were on Monday campaigning down to the wire ahead of a ballot seen returning Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to office. The vote is widely expected to usher in a government which will swing further to the right.

Arab League urges Arab Israelis to vote ‘in droves’

AFP – The Arab League urged Arab Israelis to stage a massive turnout in the Jewish state’s legislative elections on Tuesday, in a statement published in Cairo. “The League calls on Arab citizens of Israel to turn out in droves for the elections so they are represented (in parliament) and can oppose racists.

Record number of Arabs to shun Israel vote

AFP – Less than half of Israel’s Arabs, who represent a fifth of the population, are expected to vote in Tuesday’s election, in what pundits say could be their lowest-ever turnout. Despite calls from all sides for them to get out and vote, many feel disenfranchised in reality, and are increasingly fed up.
