Trump scoffed by environmentalist over claims of being one of them

President Donald Trump caused a series of rows throughout his participation at the the Group of Seven (G-7) summit in France of which was his assertion that he was an environmentalist. However, Trump was quickly scoffed by environmentalist over claims of being one of them.

According to Miranda Green and Rebecca Beitsch in an article in The Hill, “President Trump’s statement that he is an environmentalist is provoking a backlash from critics who say his policies have hurt environmental protections and the fight against climate change. Trump made the assertion Monday at the closing of the G-7. This appeared rather hypocritical seen that he made the claim despite having skipped the climate session of the summit and ignored a discussion on the fires that are ravaging Brazil’s rain forests.

Trump was quickly scoffed by environmentalist following his claims of being a supporter of environmental protection at the G-7 summit. For example, Mitch Jones, climate and energy program director at Food & Water Action said Trump’s statement was “detached from reality, just like everything he has ever said about climate and renewable energy… For this president to claim he’s an environmentalist is one of the most absurd jokes on mankind ever been played. And it’s not funny.”
