AFP – Turkey’s Islamist-rooted government faced growing pressure on Monday after angry demonstrators clashed for a third night with police in a nationwide wave of protests. Police fired tear gas and water cannons Sunday at protesters who marched on Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s offices in Istanbul.

Turkish protesters have long list of complaints

What started as a small group opposed to an development project in Istanbul has become an outpouring of national anger over how the Islamist-rooted government treats its citizens, testing Ankara’s quest to be a model country in its neighbourhood. Turks are increasingly frustrated.
