Atiku Abubakar, ex-Vice President of Nigerian has promised “true democracy” if he emerges winner in the 2019 presidential polls. 186 million Nigerians are watching.

71-year old Atiku is a businessman and a politician who served as second Vice President-elect for the Nigerian government between 1999 and 2007.

Atiku has recently expressed dissatisfaction in the way Nigeria is currently being run, saying that the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) has failed to unite Nigerians, openly declaring his contrary opinions concerning the way the people have been governed.

Atiku abandoned the APC and returned to his former party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) earlier this year. He says that the APC is responsible for the increased rate of unemployment, insecurity, and the poor economy in Nigeria.

Atiku has promised to address the above-mentioned issues if elected President in 2019 and that true federalism will return to the people of Nigeria under his incumbency. Similar rhetoric was pronounced by incumbent Muhammadu Buhari in 2015. Will Atiku truly deliver if elected? The power of democracy, lies in recycling leadership. A new peaceful democratic change in power would be an advance in itself.
