On the world stage, US – Russia relations have always been that of a show of strength. America’s victory over the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), now Russia, was the product of the power of its democracy and this has gone a long way to format US Policy towards Russia.
Trump, since coming to power, has attempted to reverse this state of affairs. On the face of it, it seems like a President easing tensions, except there was 2016. Russia is known to have meddled in US elections in favour of Trump. There is therefore hardly a disconnect between a Russian straw-man version of Trump and Trump’s soft approach towards Russia, going as far as advocating the villainous country’s admission into the G7 summit. This caused a row in the recent G7 summit but Trump, stubborn as he is, says he’ll invite Russia to the next G7.
