Arkansas lawmakers advance ethics, campaign rules

An effort to ask Arkansas voters to approve outlawing most lobbyist gifts to elected officials, ban corporate campaign contributions and loosen term limits for legislators was revived by the state Senate on Thursday. By a 23-4 vote, the Senate approved a proposal to let voters decide on adding a package and advances election commission bills. An Arkansas Senate committee has advanced measures that would allow the state to remove local election commissioners and would expand the membership of the state Board of Election Commissioners. The Senate State Agencies and Governmental Affairs Committee on Tuesday approved the measures.
