Bahraini police fired tear gas and birdshot during overnight clashes with protesters demanding the release of jailed opposition activists, wounding several demonstrators, witnesses said on Friday. The clashes broke out in Shiite villages around the capital Manama when hundreds of demonstrators flooded.
