Are you ready to go to war again? Trump has been talking about war with Iran the way George Bush talked about war with Iraq before and after his disastrous invasion. Iran is a different country and war with Iran is a way more dangerous prospect than Iraq in my estimation. It is certainly way larger geographically, with a much bigger population, and way more diverse than Iraq. I’ve also heard that Iran is way more prepared to fight our soldiers and have been training to do this for decades.
No wonder Trump wants to pull out of the United Nations and NATO. He clearly doesn’t want to have any accountability for his actions. Anyway, since when does the United States, the so-called ‘city on the hill’, have a right to start bombing countries that are and want peace with us? Of all of Trump’s mistakes so far, his worst idea yet may be that he is preparing for the bombing of Iranian nuclear facilities, as has been leaked by Australia.
Hawkish American National Security Advisor John Bolton has lead the drive to war, along with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. Since Trump’s election, his administration has been busy with destabilizing Iran and selling a strategy of renewed confrontation to all who will listen. John Bolton is a favored son of the defense contractors and is a widely despised ‘chicken hawk’, a reputation he earned during his time in the George W Bush administration.
Why is the world letting our country continue to bully the population of Iran with threats of war? I know there has been saber rattling on the side of Iran too but it is the US, acting unilaterally, who dropped the Barack Obama’s Iran deal. I believe Trump wants to go to war simply to become a big war president with an eye on his reelection. But America’s long term interest in saber rattling goes beyond Trump and largely flows from the fact that Iran has been trying for decades to remain independent, strong and confident in the face of American pressure.
America only recently used our vast military might to destroy Libya and Iraq. Thousands of our troops are currently involved in the fighting in Syria. It should be clear to anyone that America is very busy being the world’s policeman. But who is holding us accountable for our actions? Probably the primary reason that nobody has yet said boo to our actions and our war mongering is the power we as the world’s biggest economy and the world’s largest importer of goods. Defying American foreign policy makes little sense economically. So, behind it all, as always, there’s a reason for the madness in Iran: it’s the money, it’s always about the money!
