Today, Bill Bratton, the head of the NYPD, was at The Responsible 100 Gala as a Special Speaker in Hunter College. His presence in the CUNY system was felt by many as an attack to all the oppressed nationality youth and working class people who attend the university and are affected by police brutality.
Bill Bratton is felt to be an enemy of the people who has played a leading role in the mass incarceration of Black and Latino people in the U.S. Every 7 hours a Black person is either killed by the State or by a vigilante. CUNY welcoming a man with blood on in his hands, reveals the ridiculous and white supremacist nature of the state and the institution it has control of, like CUNY:
The Revolutionary Student Coordinating Committee called all revolutionary and progressive Students, Organizations, Faculty, Workers and community members to come out and rally and protest at Hunter College 12pm.
Agnes Johnson of New Yorkers Against Bratton spoke to me about NYPD giving kids $100 tickets for getting on a crowded bus from the back door even with the knowledge of the driver, “You have to live there, in the Bronx, to understand. A lot of times when you transfer, they send so few buses that it’s always crowded and yo can never get on. So most people that are just using the transfer anyway, they know the stops where the children are coming, will just get on the back of the bus and the bus drivers know, so now they have undercover cops, and they’re very visible, you can tell who they are, they’re beefy, they got on a T shirt, trying to look like they’re part of the community but, they’re not and we know it. They’ll be on the bus or at the bus stop when people are getting on the back of the bus and they’ll pull them off and give them $100”.
