Thanks to your support, our Design of a Broken System documentary reached its Kickstarter fundraising goal on June 17th and the project has been evolving ever since. As we continue the filming process, the time comes to keep everyone updated! Our big news is that director and longtime Democracy Chronicles contributor John Amaruso has teamed up with DP Sercan Sezgin who has allowed access to advanced filming and editing equipment. Working together as a New York City based team, the film will be completed on time and on budget!
As an NYU Graduate from Istanbul, Sercan will bring a key perspective to our team. He previously directed a documentary about the Gezi Protests in Istanbul during the summer of 2013 and also is completing a feature length documentary about the improvised music scene in New York. His years spent in France and Spain, not only allowed him to learn both languages (in addition to his Turkish and English), but also opened him up to a cultural diversity which encouraged him to host a radio show on WNYU 89.1 FM, collect vinyls and dj around New York City and Istanbul.
With your support Democracy Chronicles can complete our filming this summer by finishing key interviews with politicians, activists, and election reform activists as they battle to fix this broken system. You can follow our project at our Facebook page and follow us on Twitter @BrokenSystemDoc. Also take a look at our teaser video below this write-up to get a glimpse of how John Amaruso has begun his work exposing a growing crisis.
