Maryland woman and Democratic candidate pleads guilty to voter fraud as act of civil disobedience | Democracy, elections and voting at Democracy Chronicles
Maryland congressional candidate and publisher, Wendy Rosen, pleaded guilty to voter fraud on Friday. Rosen voted illegally during 2006 and 2010 elections in what she calls “an act of civil disobedience.” The Baltimore Sun reports:
The 58-year-old Rosen, who won a Democratic primary last year to challenge Republican Rep. Andy Harris in Maryland’s 1st Congressional District, cast ballots in 2006 and 2010 in Baltimore County even though her legal residence was in Florida. The revelation last September ended her run.
Rosen attempted a more in-depth explanation of her motives in a statement released on Saturday:
“I voted twice. It was an act of civil disobedience in recognition of the millions of legitimate voters who have been illegally prevented from voting or having their votes counted, during the past four presidential elections. The fact is, in some states officials take great effort to keep Americans, especially the poor and minorities from voting. Precincts in poor areas have so few voting machines that long lines force voters to stand in line for as long as four to six hours.”
