Justine Marjan is one of the stylists responsible for the Great Barrette Renaissance of 2019, and she’s most known for statement barrettes like Selena Gomez’s “ugly” hair clip or the Instagram-famous “feelings.” But for 2020, Marjan is pulling her hair back for a good cause.
In a partnership with Kitsch and nonprofit organization When We All Vote, Marjan has launched a “vote” bobby pin. It’s in the same rhinestone, all-caps style as her previous creations, but this time, 100 percent of profits will be donated to help increase voter turnout and encourage voters to get involved as we head for the 2020 election season.
When We All Vote was launched by an all-star group of co-chairs, including Michelle Obama, Tom Hanks, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and more. The organization works to organize voter registration events, share resources like where and how to vote, and mobilizes communities to get to the polls. As Marjan wrote on Instagram, it was Kerry Washington who encouraged her to get involved. “Everyone who knows me knows that I have a passion for social justice and am eager to educate,” Marjan wrote. “I know a lot of people who are unaware of the issues directly affecting them and their local communities. With the upcoming election cycle I want to encourage people to vote in the local elections as well as national so that all our voices can truly be heard.”
