China trial of anti-corruption activists suspended: lawyer
AFP – The trial of three Chinese anti-corruption activists seen as part of an official clampdown on citizens’ demands for reforms was suspended Monday, a lawyer said. Liu Ping, Wei Zhongping and Li Sihua were charged with “illegal assembly”.
Local authorities in Shanghai have denied that a petitioner was beaten to death by local police over a property dispute. The response came after dozens protested in the heart of the commercial hub at the weekend to demand compensation for being evicted.
