Russia, China veto of Syria sanctions spark West’s outrage
Russia and China on Thursday vetoed a UN Security Council resolution on Syria for the third time, sparking outrage by the Western nations which demanded sanctions against President Bashar al-Assad. The US presidency called the third veto in nine months “highly regrettable”. Britain said it was “appalled”. The administration of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, one of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s few allies, ‘vigorously condemns the terrorist attack’ in Damascus. Alex Leff Venezuela has issued an official condemnation of Wednesday’s bombing in Damascus that injured and killed top security chiefs.
