PROVIDENCE – Rhode Island Gov. Gina M. Raimondo took the lead Monday morning in announcing a new “partnership” between the Democratic Governors Association and “Fair Fight,″ an organization launched by former Georgia House Democratic Leader and gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams to battle perceived attempts to suppress the vote of traditionally “under counted″ voting blocs.
Raimondo, who just relinquished the helm of the DGA to New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy, said the new “Every State, Every Vote” effort follows a “very successful” DGA campaign in 2016 titled: “Un-rig the map … to protect and flip key states where the governor holds veto power in the redistricting process.”
“This effort — ‘Every State, Every Vote’ — is just the natural extension or the next step as Democratic governors continue to lean in around voting access, voting protection, [redistricting] and of course, the 2020 Census.”
