Sudan’s deep state still poses a threat to the democratic process and fixing the security question remains a priority for the transition to work, observers suggest.
There have been a number of signs suggesting that Sudan’s leadership needs to accelerate the dismantling of the country’s internal security structures. And that it needs to develop a clear strategy on how they will work, and who will manage them, say analysts Andrew Edward Tchie and Jihad Salih Mashamoun. The most recent signal was a mutiny by the operation units of the General Intelligence Directorate on 14 December, 2019.
