The Brennan Center for Justice at NYU Law has launched a campaign on election protection against cyberattack. Part of what the campaign has produced to this end is an election security guide for public officials. It is highly recommended. The guide also functions as a tool for election officials and those running for public office to assist in taking measures to ensure that the vote is free from interference from foreign governments and ‘bad actors’. In the document, The Center made sure to have a call for action, stating that “as a candidate for public office, we encourage you to include election integrity as a piece of your campaign this fall”. From the guide:
This guide offers suggested messaging and tactics to ensure that election security is front and center during this fall’s campaign season. It includes guidance on ways to discuss election security with the press and public audiences, gives suggestions for how to field frequently asked questions about election security, and provides tips for leveraging local media to focus on this issue in the upcoming months.
The guide is a complement to a separate Brennan Center report titled, “Better Safe Than Sorry: How Elections Officials Can Plan Ahead to Protect the Vote in the Face of a Cyberattack.”
