“I have a lot of gay friends. They do their thing, and I do mine”, says a tall young black man. “We’re all free to be ourselves”, according to another young person. The Latin American version of Love Matters (Hablemos de Sexo y Amor) is speaking with young people at the Central University in the Venezuelan capital Caracas to get insights into their views on the topic.

Not all of them accepted homosexuality. A short female student stated adamantly that “God made man and woman to be a couple”. Many people agree with her in this country where the Catholic Church is still very powerful.
Generational split
Another student pointed out that it’s difficult for the older generation to understand that people have a right to their sexual orientation. “My father, my mother and my uncles are really old, and they’re not as open to changes in society.”
