So why do we think of ourselves as a great nation? Is it because of our great economy? Is it because we call ourselves a Christian Nation? Or is it because of our great freedoms (despite the Patriot Act)? Should we, who call ourselves great, actually be great?
How can we be great when we are always picking on the little guy, the underdog and the impoverished? I know we excuse these things as propaganda rhetoric and lies but these wars have resulted in the mass death of people and the destruction of entire countries.
How long will we go on turning away from speaking up for the innocent who are condemned to death because of the actions of this Great Nation?
One can site Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Iran, Venezuela, El Salvador, Libya, and Yemen. In Yemen, our government’s latest adventure to be ignored by the public, an impoverished population is starving to death because of our support of the oil-corrupt regime in Saudi Arabia. Also, what about Mexico, Native Americans, Cuba?
Can a country at the same be great and also be exceptionally mean and violent to others? You tell me.

Jack Jones wrote an excellent article. The US does great things but also does terrible things. The politicians & media call this nation exceptional. The bad things it does are the endless wars in the ME & drone strikes, support for Saudi Arabia’s war in Yemen & excusing it for murdering Jamal Khashogghi & supporting Israeli oppression of the Palestinians. George HW Bush recently died & the media talks about him being a great man & patriot. He was VPOTUS under Reagan who refused to fund research for AIDS victims because they were mostly gay men or drug addicts. As POTUS, he bombed Iraq even after the Gulf War was officially over & bombed Panama to get Noriega & bring him to the USA.
Bill Clinton also bombed Iraq & a pharmaceutical plant in Sudan. He sent Black Hawk helicopters to Somalia.
George W Bush bombed Iraq even before declaring war. He invaded Afghanistan. He favored an amendment against same sex marriage.
Obama continued the war in Afghanistan & promised to shut down Gitmo. He bombed Libya. He ended the war in Iraq only to restart it along with one in Syria.
Trump is continuing the wars. He had a war of words with North Korea before officially talking to them. He won’t declare war on them. They have WMD’s.

Thank you for your love, I am not old but I remember a time in the 70s when I was a young child, people loved each other like they do now but we expected the media, politicians ect to be honest! Since then apathy has set in people now believe the lies or know they are being lied to but we are doing nothing about it. In the 60s there was a draft so people protested the war, now we have a all volunteer army, so no one says a peep, meanwhile the US has destroyed Afghanistan, Iraq, libya,Yemen” with Saudi Arabia” now we have Iran in our sights. I grew up in a time when we were better than this, and I have no contempt for the youth that are being taken advantaged of no health care, low wages, criminal student loan rates!!! But I have a word overcome! Overcome the lies, overcome the pressure, overcome the paralyzing stress, you can do this you are special talented and intelligent! I only hope to awaken you to what you already know is true. Let’s do something about it!!!!
