Ohio Green Party approval voting supporters win use of election method for choosing president
Statement from the Ohio Green Party:
We have agreed to use “approval voting” as opposed to “instant runoff voting” to make the Ohio Green Party choice for president to be voted on at the Green Party Of the United States nominating convention to be held in Houston in August. We will also choose our delegates to the national convention and other appropriate business for the presidential election year convention.
Our Presidential Nominating Convention will be held on April 3rd in Columbus. At this convention those who are registered Green through their local county Board of Elections will have the opportunity to help decide which Green Party Presidential candidate will be nominated to be on the ballot in November. Casting a Green Party ballot in the March primary will assure attendees the ability to vote their preference at the Convention.
The party also called for other state election changes including a statement by Green Party candidate for Cuyahoga County Executive in 2010, David Ellison, who said, “The reforms of the Cuyahoga County government will not be finished until the office of the County Prosecutor has been made term-limited and non-partisan, and with the additional requirement that a former prosecutor not be eligible for another elected office for a period of at least 2 years after their term as County Prosecutor has ended.” According to the recent article, “Ohio Green Party joins call for resignation of Cuyahoga County Prosecutor and changes to Prosecutors office” from the party website:
The County Council has made statements in the past about the reforms being a continuing process, we ask them to take action beyond mere soundbites. Take the politics out of the Prosecutors Office and ensure the steps necessary to begin the process by which public trust can be restored in the criminal justice system.
