Another sad day for America as the sacrosanct right to bear arms has yet again been misused. A regrettable shoot out took place today at a High School near Los Angeles. One person reportedly died and five others were wounded.
By 2:31PM ET abc news reported officials as saying “a 16-year-old girl [had died] and four others… injured after a student opened fire at a high school in Southern California Thursday morning…” abc news went on to report authorities as saying that “the sole suspect, a 16-year-old male student, took a handgun from his backpack and shot others before shooting himself in the head”, that “the suspect was taken into custody and is in the hospital in “grave condition,”” and that “the early morning school shooting was on the suspect’s birthday.”
CNN stated that “nearly 40,000 people in the United States died by guns last year, marking the highest number of gun deaths in decades, according to a new analysis of data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s WONDER database.”
Today’s victims are unfortunately another statistic in a worsening situation. This new incident rehashes the problem of gun control in America. The right to bear arms is enshrined in the US Bill of Rights. However, many have called for tighter restrictions including measures to prevent teenagers from having access to firearms.
