Unfortunately, Hillary Clinton still holds a commanding lead over Bernie Sanders in the latest CNN poll among registered voters who are Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents 50% to 34%. Politicians were once the most respected citizens in American society. Today, most Americans feel that our government is useless and untrustworthy. What America needs is a genuine, truthful politician who has one goal: to improve the wellbeing of Americans. Clinton has shown to be the complete opposite of this.
Clinton stated in July 2014 that she and her husband were “dead broke” upon leaving the White House in 2001. However, in 1999, the couple bought a 5-bedroom home in Chappaqua, NY for nearly $2 million. In December 2000, they bought a 7-bedroom house near Embassy Row in Washington, DC for almost $3 million. Clinton infamously claimed in 2008 that she landed under “sniper fire” in Bosnia, which was refuted by video evidence of the incident. In 1995, she claimed that she was named after Sir Edmund Hillary, the first person to reach Mount Everest’s summit. However, he did not do so until 6 years after Clinton was born. Most infamously, there was also the Benghazi attack, in which Clinton was the center of controversy.
Clinton defended her improper e-mail practices in which she didn’t use a government email, making her server open to exploitation. She flatly perjured and said that there was no law to govern her conduct. That would be true, if we completely disregarded federal criminal statutes, federal record regulations, State Department handbooks, and Clinton’s own directions to State Department personnel which governed and prohibited her own conduct.
The Job of Commander in Chief is to keep this country safe, and I don’t believe someone keeping classified government information on a server readily available to the Russians and Chinese is someone who should be in charge of our national security. Recently, the ideology behind telling the truth is usually a final resort when the alternative options of treachery, blackmail and fraudulence have all been exhausted. As Americans, we need someone genuine. In a time of widespread deception, telling the truth can be a profound act. If we elect Hillary, then we are electing a habitually lying candidate.
While I believe a politician admitting they’re wrong after having a change of heart is admirable, Clinton simply struggles with choosing a position. Hillary Clinton stated in 2000, “I think a marriage is as a marriage has always been, between a man and a woman.” Clinton maintained this position during her 2008 campaign and until 2013, when she said that gay Americans are “full and equal citizens and deserve the rights of citizenship, that includes marriage.”
She also favored the Cuban embargo in 2000, before opposing it in 2014, and voted for the Iraq War in 2002 before campaigning against it (and refusing to admit her vote) in 2008. Most notably, in a 2007 debate, she spoke in favor of giving driver’s licenses to undocumented immigrants, changed her position two minutes later, and then changed her position back the next day. As an American, I prefer a leader who is strong and sticks to their decision.
Benghazi isn’t Clinton’s only hiccup throughout her political journey. In the infamous Whitewater Controversy, she and President Clinton were found to be involved in some suspect real estate investments during their time in a failed business venture. Hillary was also involved in the Travelgate scandal, which alleged that the Clintons had fired White House Travel Staff employees so that some of the Clintons’ friends could take their places. While President Clinton was acquitted of any wrongdoing, Mrs. Clinton was found to have played a central role in the firings and made false statements about the matter. Hillary was also involved in the Filegate scandal, which alleged that she had requested and read top-secret FBI background checks for political purposes.
Nothing New
Clinton’s ideas are simply slight changes in old ideas which do not work. When it comes to education, Clinton has expressed that she would raise taxes and throw more money in an outdated system. She is yet to come up with new reforms for America. Clinton is also as big of a Obama supporter as they come. Not only does she support everything he does, but she would like to further his ideas in office. President Obama’s ideas simply don’t work, and with Clinton in office, it would be another four years of Obama in office. Mrs. Clinton’s presidency would experience expansion in tax increases and expansion in Obamacare, essentially a third term for Obama and his administration.
Clinton is seen by some as a “leader for women’s rights”, but after some research, I would say otherwise. In 1975, a then 27-year-old Clinton had her first defense case as a young lawyer. She worked on behalf of Thomas Alfred Taylor, accused of raping a 12-year-old girl in Arkansas with a friend. The girl concluded that Clinton used smear tactics so that Taylor would have a lighter sentence, even though she was aware of his guilt. She says that the young lawyer went to extraordinary lengths to discredit evidence of the rape, and intentionally lied in court documents. To make matters worse, the cocky lawyer later acknowledged and laughed about her attackers’ guilt on tape.
Clinton went on to write in official court documents that the rape victim “is emotionally unstable with a tendency to seek out older men” and “made false accusations about her body”. The victim emphatically denied any of this and stated that she had never made any accusations. Audio recordings surfaced almost forty years later between Clinton and local reporter Roy Reed. On the tapes, she appears to acknowledge Taylor’s guilt, and proceeds to brag about getting the only piece of physical evidence (a section of Taylor’s underwear which contained blood of the victim) thrown out, all while having a good chuckle over the matter. Later in the recordings, she says “He took a lie detector test. I had him take a polygraph, which he passed, which forever destroyed my faith in polygraphs.”
Instead of the original charge of 1st degree rape, Taylor was charged with unlawful fondling of a child. Thanks to Clinton, the victim, a virgin before the assault, spent five days in a coma, months recovering from the beating, over ten years in therapy, and was never able to have kids. The experience made her afraid of men for the majority of her life, and led her to the use of drugs.
You have to ask yourself as Americans, is this the type of person you want as our Commander in Chief?
