A new post on Democracy Digest focuses on the importance of civil society to democratization and part of the discussion is about how it impacts the process. It states that:
Successful democratic transitions are not driven by specialist pro-democracy NGOs, but by ‘durable’ groups such as labor unions which address everyday, mundane needs rather than compete for political power, research suggests.
