Governor’s race opens up with entry of two Independent Candidates for Massachusetts | Democracy, elections, and voting at Democracy Chronicles
A new post on Ballot Access News, “Second Independent Candidate Declares for Massachusetts Governor in 2014” by election reform, ballot access, and third party expert Richard Winger has the latest scoop:
Venture capitalist Jeffrey S. McCormick announced last month that he will run for Governor of Massachusetts in 2014 as an independent. See this story. He is backed by Joe Malone, a former Republican who was elected Treasurer of Massachusetts in 1990 and re-elected in 1994. Malone recently left the Republican Party and became an independent. Evan Falchuk is also running for Governor of Massachusetts outside the two major parties. He has been campaigning since July and he expects to be on the November 2014 ballot as the nominee of his United Independent Party.

McCormick founded Saturn Partners in 1994 to finance early-stage growth companies, according to a biography on the company’s website that lists him as the managing partner of the firm. Saturn touts among its successful investments Twin Rivers Technologies, the email marketing company Constant Contact and Boston Duck Tours. McCormick, 52, of Boston, also sits on the board of the Sean McDonough Charitable Foundation, the Citi Performing Arts Center, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and Trinity Church Boston. He is a graduate of Syracuse University.

On November 20, former U.S. Senator Joe Lieberman spoke a Roanoke College. Among other things, he said emergence of a strong new political party would be beneficial to the United States, even if it wasn’t strong enough to win.
