Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream wants to see you and your friends join Stamp Stampede to get money out! Raising awareness about the malicious influence of money in the modern American political system, activists have been joined by 30,000 supporters so far who all purchased at least one of the charity’s stamps (You should too). Here is a short description of their plan followed by a ‘sweet’ YouTube video:
The Stamp Stampede is a project of People Power Initiatives, a Vermont-based 501c3 non-profit organization. Ben Cohen, of Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream fame, got his inspiration from, and would like to thank, Occupygeorge.com and Where’s George money stamping projects.
It’s legal to stamp political messages on US currency. Many people assume that it’s illegal to stamp or write on paper currency, but that’s not the case. It’s illegal to destroy paper currency or deface it with the intention of making it no longer recognizable, to the point that it has to be taken out of circulation. But the intent of the Stampede is to make sure that these stamped dollars STAY in circulation to help spread the message and build momentum for change.
