Broadway musical “Hamilton” by artist Lin-Manuel Miranda examines the life of the founding father

Lin-Manuel Miranda, creator and star of acclaimed Broadway musical “Hamilton,” performed in the show one last time on Saturday night.

Miranda, whose role in shaping the production earned him two Tony Awards last month, had performed as the show’s title character for nearly a year after previous a previous production at the Public Theater in New York City.

The show has earned numerous accolades since it opened, including the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, 11 total Tony Awards and the Edward M. Kennedy Prize for Drama Inspired by American History. Miranda himself was awarded a MacArthur Foundation “genius” grant last year.

The cast also performed at the White House last month, with President Barack Obama joining Miranda for some freestyle.

Jennifer Lopez, Secretary of State John Kerry, Spike Lee and Charlie Rose all attended Miranda’s last performance.

The show was also the final performance for Leslie Odom Jr., who played Hamilton’s rival Aaron Burr, and Phillipa Soo, who played his wife Eliza.

The Chicago Tribune described Miranda’s final bow as “subdued,” while The New York Times noted that it lasted only two and a half minutes.

After the show, hundreds of fans waited in the pouring rain for Mr. Miranda to emerge from the stage door, The New York Times reported.

He appeared briefly on the marquee outside the theater, walking from one end to the other before he left. After the performance, Miranda posted a photo on Twitter showing he chopped off his character’s signature pony tail.
