This following article from AFP talks about how militants are fleeing the Iraq conflict to go to Syria or to other Arab Spring countries. I think this is amazing evidence that the Arab Spring has sapped the strength of militant Islam and given the people of these countries something better to fight for. Overthrowing a dictator for democracy is the right of any people. The Middle East may change to be more like Africa, divided and internally focused. This means that the people within the Arab world will, like Africa is doing now, have a real chance to create balanced societies and economic structures. There will certainly be real conflict ahead but not in the same way as the Al Qaeda era. What do you think?
