Sebes is right about the vulnerability of sending votes via email. But that is not ‘online voting.’ The vote is cast off line, but then sent over the Internet by email.
So there is no violation of the rules by FVAP or any states.
The real problem here is the Halloween Myths about true Internet voting security. True Internet voting occurs when the voter logs on to a secure voting website, passes the security/registration test (like w/ a PIN and password), then votes on the website by selecting from the menu and then clicking “vote.” No email there.
This has been done securely all over the world. It is being done this year (2014) in over 90 cities in Ontario, Canada. Norway, Switzerland, other Canadian cities, West Virginia, India – and more have conducted true Internet voting w/o security issues.
Contrary to the implication in this article, Rutgers University’s law school does NOT have an official position on Internet voting. But an unofficial group using the law school name is no more than a propaganda arm of anti-Internet voting extremists, full of Halloween Scary Stories about what ‘might’ or ‘could’ happen.
