Many Urban Citizens Do Not Register Despite Importance of Elections Needing Los Angeles Voter Participation Drive
GOOD, Liberty Hill and The Goldhirsh Foundation Team up to Encourage Voter Turnout in Los Angeles
In partnership with Liberty Hill and the Goldhirsh Foundation, GOOD is launching a challenge via its online platform GOOD Maker to encourage voter participation in Los Angeles. The winning submission will receive a $10,000 grant from Liberty Hill to “turn on the turnout” in upcoming elections. The award is being underwritten by the Goldhirsh Foundation.
Mobilizing low propensity voters is a key initiative for Liberty Hill, and through this challenge they are looking for innovative and creative approaches to voter engagement in Los Angeles.
“This challenge is all about bringing democracy to life,” says Tara Roth McConaghy, president of the Goldhirsh Foundation. “Los Angeles has fantastic grassroots organizations, and this challenge empowers the community to determine who will best activate their constituents with the grant.”
Previous Liberty Hill grantees are eligible to apply at turnontheturnout.maker.good.is from September 10, 2012 through September 28, 2012, noon Pacific Time. A list of eligible organizations is available at libertyhill.org. From October 1 through October 12, noon Pacific Time, the challenge will open to a public vote. A panel of judges from Liberty Hill will conduct interviews with the top 3 voted finalists and determine the final winner on October 26, 2012.
