Paul McCartney tells Pussy Riot to ‘stay strong’

Paul McCartney threw his support behind Russian punk rockers Pussy Riot on Thursday on the eve of the verdict in their trial for insulting President Vladimir Putin. The former Beatle told the three young women to “stay strong” and said he would do everything in his power to help them.

If a Moscow judge sends the three young Pussy Riot punk rockers to a corrective labour facility on Friday, they could face the harshest conditions possible for jailed women, sharing barracks with more than 100 others. The state prosecutor said the women deserved “isolation from society” for staging the protest.
