The concept of “radical democracy” is the idea that democracy is an unfinished product where bold ideas are welcome. Internet voting, direct democracy and other bold proposals are analyzed by the group. This information is from the Radical Democracy website:
We are a group of public intellectuals from around the world interested in exploring the concept of radical democracy in all its manifestations. Originally emerging out of a joint class held at Columbia University and The New School in New York City, our project has evolved into an annual conference, a radical democracy working group based here in New York, as well as plans for the first-ever Journal of Radical Democracy, which is currently in the works.
Just in time for Earth Day, we are happy to announce that the entire 2013 Radical Democracy conference is now available online for your viewing pleasure. Thanks to everyone who took part and came out to make this conference another successful one. Now we begin the slow process of deciding on our fourth year of the conference, and what next year’s conference will look like. If you have any ideas please feel free to drop us a line and let us know.
We are excited to announce that William Connolly, Krieger-Eisenhower Professor of Political Science at Johns Hopkins University, will be the featured keynote speaker for this year’s radical democracy conference. Professor Connolly is known for his work on democracy and pluralism, and he is the author of numerous articles and books, including The Terms of Political Discourse, Why I Am Not a Secularist, and A World of Becoming.
Until then, keep your eyes peeled for a CFP sometime in the fall of 2013.
