From Freedom House
In response to two reports released today by the United States Senate Select Committee on Intelligence revealing the scale and impact of the Russian Internet Research Agency, Freedom House issued the following statement:
“The reports released today underscore that American democracy remains at significant risk from Russian interference,” said Michael J. Abramowitz, president of Freedom House.
“The findings conclusively demonstrate that Russia has devoted massive resources in an ongoing effort to promote discord and erode confidence in democratic institutions, and also reminds us how shockingly unprepared our government was in the face of a concerted campaign of foreign disinformation,” Abramowitz continued.
“Along with other investigative reporting, these reports have exposed significant vulnerabilities in our elections and information systems. Lawmakers, elections officials and tech companies should take clear action to address these threats, to strengthen and restore confidence in our most fundamental democratic processes.”
