Santa Fe is in line to become the 12th U.S. city — and the first in New Mexico — to use the ranked-choice format in March, when voters elect the city’s first full-time mayor and fill four City Council seats.
“Ranked-choice voting has arrived in our community,” said Mayor Javier Gonzales, who is not seeking re-election, after the ordinance was approved. “I have all the confidence that on March 6 this process will be done in a way that [voters’] change in election is fulfilled.”
