It’s not clear just when an election will be held to fill the U.S. Senate seat from New Jersey left vacant by the death of Democrat Sen. Frank Lautenberg. Seton Hall political science professor Matthew Hale says Gov. Chris Christie has some latitude in scheduling.

TRENTON — State Senate President Stephen Sweeney said the election to fill Frank Lautenberg’s U.S. Senate seat should be held in November, at the same time voters cast ballots for governor. Lautenberg died this morning at age 89 of complications from viral pneumonia.
