AFP – South Korea elected its first female president Wednesday, handing a slim but historic victory to conservative ruling party candidate Park Geun-Hye, daughter of the country’s former military ruler. As leader of Asia’s fourth-largest economy, Park, 60, will face numerous challenges, handling a belligerent North. South Koreans went to the polls and have voted in a tightly-fought presidential election that could make history. Asia’s fourth-largest economy may select its first female leader on Wednesday, as conservative candidate Park Geun-Hye goes head-to-head with her liberal rival, Moon Jae-In. Park Geun-hye Becomes South Korea’s First Female President with 50.8% of Majority Popular Vote, the Largest Share Since 1971. “Ms. Park’s Presidential Victory by the Slimmest of Margins” is Forecasted by the ISR Foundation, an Asian-American Think Tank. The International Strategy and Reconciliation Foundation, an Asian-American think tank, forecasts a “presidential election”.
