During this week’s congressional recess the Declaration for American Democracy is hosting more than 80 events in 19 states across the country in support of the For the People Act (H.R. 1).
These include: a rally with U.S. Rep. Chris Pappas (D-N.H), a rally with U.S. Rep. Charlie Crist (D-Fla.), and a large town hall event in Manhattan with U.S. Rep. and Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D.-N.Y.), U.S. Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.) and New York state leaders.
The coalition is also hosting several protests of recalcitrant members, including U.S. Rep. and House Administration Committee Ranking Member Rodney Davis (R-Ill.). A map of events is here.
Additionally, the coalition is turning out supporters at more than 700 town halls across the country to ask their members questions about the bill.
The For the People Act is a groundbreaking democracy reform package that would improve access to the ballot and enhance election security, end partisan gerrymandering and strengthen oversight and accountability of our elected officials. The bill would also create a matching system for small donations, returning power to the American people by allowing candidates to run elections funded by their constituents, instead of wealthy special interests.
The Declaration for American Democracy is a coalition of more than 125 local, state and national organizations representing a diverse array of constituencies and issues working together to create a democracy where everyone’s voice is heard, counted and protected.
