Dating app Tinder is teaming with Rock the Vote to boost participation with Swipe the Vote feature
LOS ANGELES, March 23, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — Tinder, the world’s most popular app for meeting new people, is partnering with Rock the Vote, the largest nonpartisan organization in the country driving youth to the polls, to launch ‘ Swipe the Vote’, a compelling campaign designed to attract millennials to participate in the voting process.
In this presidential election year, Tinder invites its users to weigh in on the issues that are heating up the debate and match with the candidate that best aligns with their views. Tinder users will be presented with 10 of the hottest issues being discussed and will be prompted to swipe right if they agree and swipe left if they disagree. Once determined, a percentage match will appear indicating their primary and secondary candidate matches.
“Our users deserve all the credit for this one – we got inspired by their overwhelming engagement in the presidential election,” says Sean Rad, Founder and CEO of Tinder. “We also want to do our part in mobilizing our millions of engaged Tinder users to vote this November, and there’s no better partner to help with that effort than Rock the Vote.”
The ‘Swipe the Vote’ experience was built in collaboration with Wedgies, a real-time polling platform. Wedgies recently powered online polls for the White House during the State of the Union Address in January.
“Many millennials are engaging in the political process for the first time, and they’ll be playing a big role in deciding this election,” said Sarah Audelo, Political and Field Director at Rock the Vote. “Tinder provides an amazing platform for millennials to learn more about the views and opinions of the candidates, giving them the opportunity to engage with important political issues while also providing an easy and efficient way to register to vote.”
Issues up for debate include legalizing marijuana, same-sex marriage, drilling for oil and gas in America, raising minimum wage, stricter laws for online piracy, increasing education funding and more.
‘Swipe the Vote’ Users also have the opportunity to learn more about the issues including opinions from supporters and opponents and additional candidate background. Non-registered voters can also seamlessly register to vote and share results on social media, just in time for this year’s elections.
