President Donald Trump is known to be a “tweeterholic” but his tweets are increasingly bordering irresponsibility and unbecoming of the American democracy.
Defense and intelligence briefings are expected to be secret. But here was Trump tweeting photos of an Iranian launchpad discussed at a recent intelligence briefing. Yes, a “US official [has confrimed] that Trump tweeted out a picture from a classified intelligence briefing.” The American president will have to do everything to exercise some restraint in future except he is truly disregarding all counsel.
The photo was purportedly that of a launchpad that failed to propel a rocket last Thursday. Trump said in his tweet that the US was not involved in its failure. According to Trump, “the United States of America was not involved in the catastrophic accident during final launch preparations for the Safir SLV Launch at Semnan Launch Site One in Iran… I wish Iran best wishes and good luck in determining what happened at Site One.”
This was absolutely unnecessary. The President of the USA cannot indulge in tweeting such issues. Trump may deem it was a trivial issue but it is not only inappropriate for the President to do so but undignified for his office. It was an irresponsible move as “experts [now] worry Trump revealed US secrets when he tweeted a photo of an Iranian launch site.” But more importantly, the ridicule extends to the American people. The revered office of the president is increasingly the object of unimaginably petty mockery wars.
Following the tweet, which Trump reportedly did to mock Iran, Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi, Iran’s information and communications technology minister posted a photo of himself standing in front of the Nahid-1 satellite Friday. What the Minister was doing was trolling the president with a ‘good morning’ selfie in which he wanted to counter-mock Trump and prove to him that the launchpad was doing well.
“The controversy over the satellite comes as the Trump administration has ramped up its pressure on Iran to negotiate everything from its nuclear activities to its ballistic missiles and its support for militant proxy forces in the Middle East.” Trading words and mockery in this feud will not help matters as popping balloons in this way may proof to be unproductive and maybe even catastrophic. The President may do well to show some restraint in future.
