Maduro government seeking to silence critics as Venezuela political cartoonist fired from newspaper after political interference

Rayma Suprani studied social communication at the Universidad Central de Venezuela, specializing in humoristic editorial graphics. She has been a cartoonist for the Venezuelan newspaper El Universal since 1999, the year Chavez became the leader of Venezuela. In 2005, she won the Inter-American Press Society prize for best cartoonist. Suprani has also been published in the newspaper Estampas and has authored seven books.
