On February 1, 2021 Myanmar’s army that has a long-standing tradition of coups toppled the country’s elected government. However, the people soon lunched anti coup protests challenging this tradition. 19-year-old Ma Kyal Zin was a major leader of the protests but was unfortunately shot dead during one such demonstration. According to CNN’s Ivan Watson report,
Nineteen-year-old “Angel” Ma Kyal Zin is one of the many protesters shot dead while demonstrating against Burmese security forces in recent weeks. Her image dressed in an “Everything will be OK” t-shirt while running away from authorities moments before being fatally wounded quickly turned the teenager into a symbol of the deadly struggle for democracy in Myanmar.
