On October 23rd, Vice News published an video and article on why we have historically seen Democratic Party support for early voting but not the Republicans. As the US midterm elections draw closer, voters will have a saying as to who controls the congress first time since Donald Trump’s was elected president in 2016. Voter turnout for midterm elections is almost always lower than in presidential elections but on November 6, Democrats are hoping to outnumber Republicans through heavily taking advantage of early voting.
Early voting has already taken place in more than 25 states. People are given the opportunity in some states to vote by mail. The Democratic Party is encouraging its supporters to take advantage. From Vice:
Election Day is still a couple of weeks away. But in dozens of states across the country, voters can already vote — and Democrats are pouring millions of dollars into making that happen. Resources are finite in any campaign, especially in the final days. A dollar spent is a precious thing. An hour spent is even more precious. The Democrats often struggle to get their base out in midterm elections. But early voting gives them more chances to try to make that happen. VICE News goes inside the Democrats’ early vote turnout operation in Arizona to see how it works. “People who need to take a little more time to do the research are also going to vote early because they’ve got the opportunity to do so,” Felecia Rotellini, Arizona Democratic Party chairwoman, told VICE News. And we believe that when Arizona voters — Republican, Democrats, independent — go to look at whom they should vote for, they’re gonna pick Democrats.”
