Rescue Wang Bingzhang because while his fate is shared by numerous democracy activists; his freedom would also pave way for China’s Democracy Movement

Dr Wang Bingzhang is among the founding fathers of China’s democracy movement. His role to China is like Dr Sun Yat-Sen to the Republic of China. His aspiration is more like Dr Sun Yat-Sen. His approach is idealistic and also realistic. He built his vision for China’s democracy based on China’s own root and uniqueness and that resuming the “Republic of China” is the best route for China, given that China had about 30 years partial democracy under the rulership of KMT (1911-1945) with functioning parliament and constitution and Taiwan gained its real democracy eventually within the Republic of China regime.

Wang’s ideals are widely accepted by Chinese people who are 30-40 years younger than Dr Wang today. It is reported that hundreds of thousands of people online alone report that they want to resume Republic of China. Chinese scholars openly wrote letter acknowledging that Wang Bingzhang’s ideal is inspiration for their democratic pursuit and the reality of popular opinion in China.

Wang Bingzhang, having experienced the horror of Cultural Revolution and having observed first hand of gradual progress of Taiwan towards a democratic country, studied with his heart and mind how democracy functions in the west, not only devote all his life into democratic work, but also willingly pay the heavy price…

Today, China is on the verge of major political change. Numerous signs show that, if China does not go through a transition like the example of Taiwan, Korea, or Poland, then China may experience change like that of Syria – constant social unrest shows that the anger and distrust against the ruling communist party is the equivalent of sitting on a volcano. Please encourage Chinese people to choose the road that Wang Bingzhang choose – a peaceful transition from communist-party controlled regime to Republic of China following Taiwan’s role model of democracy.

Being a Chinese citizen, a son-in-law of Taiwan, a US permanent resident, and a person with strong personal/ family ties with Canada, Wang Bingzhang personifies the delicate triangle geopolitical relationship of North America, Taiwan and mainland China. As a visionary and down-to-earth democracy leader, even when he is in prison, his ideals continue to inspire numerous people to pursue the dream of a democratic China by resuming the Republic of China.

Wang Bingzhang’s experience in Canada and the US clearly inspired him to pursue a democratic ideal. Canada can be leaders of the world, not by showing its wealth or might, but instead, by showing that you can be a good example of democracy, can stand on high moral grounds, and can uphold human rights principles without short-change it (cheaply sell it) to economic considerations.

Please rescue Wang Bingzhang, for he is the pioneer and the leader of China’s democratic movement; Please rescue Wang Bingzhang, for he personifies the US, Taiwan and mainland China relationship and his freedom will resemble the peaceful relationship of the three forces; Please rescue Wang Bingzhang, for his ideal of reestablishing the Republic of China is also the true wishes of numerous Chinese people, and also the true hope for China to gain peace, to regain its cultural beauty and legitimacy of government.

His vision will also reduce chances of regional war and help the world to see a peaceful transition of a communist-controlled China towards one with real democracy; Please rescue Wang Bingzhang, for he carries the torch of democratic pursuit which lasted over 100 years ever since Dr Sun Yat-Sen.
