The process of gerrymandering coincides with the census, which is required to be taken every ten years. However, in recent years it has become extremely politicized as politicians draw maps that favor the political party in the majority. A particularly fierce battle over this tainted system is under way in Wisconsin where Democrats have launched the next round of the ongoing fight over state district lines. Unfortunately the fact that the lawsuit comes just ahead of the November elections is not unusual for the state or the nation.
In the latest lawsuit, filed in in Madison, Democrats think they have a legitimate opportunity to contest what they contend is unfair Republican gerrymandering in the state. Patrick Marley of the ‘Milwaukee Journal Sentinel wrote a great article about the current case here.

An incumbent member of the House of Representatives has a near 100 percent chance at re-election. Many have blamed gerrymandering for the increase.
