Women State Legislators Elected to Leadership Role with Women In Government
State Rep. Vanessa Lowery Brown, D-Phila., was elected a 2014 State Director with Women In Government by her fellow state legislative colleagues this past year. The state director’s help ascertain important issues in their states so that Women In Government can tailor programming to these needs.
“It is an honor to be elected to this leadership role for this group,” Brown said. “To be recognized by peers, in this case, women legislators in Pennsylvania, is a valuable recognition of my work and service to my constituents and the Commonwealth.”
Women In Government provides conferences that feature expert speakers on a variety of public policy topics and their impact on states. Topics include healthcare reform, diabetes, emerging issues in energy policy, cervical cancer prevention, the current status of women in state legislatures, childhood obesity, public health, economic security and opportunities, and many others. These meetings also provides attendees with the opportunity to network with colleagues across state borders and share best practices and experiences to advance successful public policies.
Women In Government Foundation, Inc. is a national, nonprofit, nonpartisan organization of women state legislators providing leadership opportunities, networking, expert forums, and educational resources. There are currently 45 women serving as state legislators in Pennsylvania, 37 representatives and 8 senators.
Brown is one of three women serving as state directors in Pennsylvania.
