As Xi Jinping consolidates power it is difficult to see how anyone can possibly tout China as being a democracy. Of course, anyone but him. Xi Jinping has argued that China has a ‘democratic’ system that holds the key to international success. A hard sell that should normally fail if not for the petit dictators across the globe that are increasingly moving towards China for protection from Western scrutiny. But this is dangerous as Xi Jinping seems himself as the worlds policy maker in the near future, not to say ruler. He too may be modest in his over-sized ambitions. The South China Morning Post had an article by Jun Mai on Xi Jinping’s claim of China’s ‘democratic’ system. Here is an excerpt:
President Xi Jinping has hailed China’s political system as a “great creation” and the key to its global success on Thursday amid intensifying ideological confrontation with Washington..
He told a party meeting in Beijing that the competition between political systems was a “key aspect” in the competition between nations, and could be a “key advantage for the country in gaining the strategic initiative”, according to state media reports.
“History and reality have shown that a country is stable if its system is stable, and a country is strong if its [political] system is robust,” he said.
