5 Professions That Need Extra Liability Insurance

by DC Editors - November 29, 2022

Many professions come with liabilities that can be incredibly costly. If an accident or mistake damages property, impacts someone’s health, or even causes a fatality, it can bankrupt you and your business. You can protect yourself with liability insurance for you and your business. Here are five professions that all benefit from some extra insurance.

Doctors and Nurses

These professions need added coverage to protect both their professional reputation and personal finances from spurious medical malpractice claims. Many of these types of claims are filed every year, and a lot are without merit. Unhappy patients can often look for someone to blame for issues or problems that were inevitable. Having professional insurance as a doctor or a nurse helps protect you from the costs of defending yourself against these claims and the cost of any settlement.

Electricians and Power Contractors

If you work with and around electricity you need some extra liability insurance. You can cause injury or even death when working with high-voltage power, and simple mistakes can lead to power surges or outages that can affect your client and even their neighborhood. You can save money when buying business insurance just like for a car or a home. Look around on the internet for some smart ways to save on your electrician insurance cost to get the coverage you need without adding excessive expense to your business’s balance sheet.

Building Contractors

Whether you work on your own, as part of a team, or if you employ construction workers and other contractors to complete building projects, you need some professional insurance. Construction sites can be dangerous places, and even with all the right precautions and safety measures, accidents can happen. Having insurance helps protect you and your business from the costs that can come from accidents and injuries on your site, as well as any damage caused to existing property in the course of completing your projects.

Attorneys-At-Law

Just like doctors, attorneys can be sued by unhappy clients for malpractice. Again, these are often illegitimate claims, but they can still cost money. You do not have to have made a mistake or acted inappropriately to find yourself the subject of a malpractice lawsuit. Having insurance helps cover the costs that are incurred from defending yourself, even if you do in fact defend yourself in court. Time is money, as every attorney knows, and even spending a short amount of time on a malpractice lawsuit can be worth thousands of dollars in litigation labor.

Landscapers and Gardeners

Similar to building contractors, landscaping and gardening projects come with risks, and accidents can happen. Not only does professional landscaping insurance protect you from medical treatment costs in the event of an injury, but they also protect you from the cost of any property damage caused. When landscaping, it can be easy to accidentally damage expensive items like garden fountains, house sidings, or under-lawn irrigation systems. You can save a huge amount of money by protecting yourself with business liability insurance.

If you work in one of these professions, you should start looking for professional liability or business insurance today. When something goes wrong, you will be glad you have an insurance policy to rely on.
