It appears a successful coup was plotted yesterday in Guinea-Conakry in which President Alpha Conde, 83, was arrested and the country’s constitution dissolved. Alpha Conde had been an opposition figure in Guinea for several years. Two years after the coup of 2008 Conde won elections. After serving two terms in office Conde stood for a third term in 2020 and won, much to the dislike of his countrymen. An article in CNN byackground to the coup. Here is an excerpt:
