There Won’t be Another Chance to Hold Biden’s Feet to the Fire

Chance to Hold Biden’s Feet to the FireIf we want to live in a somewhat decent country we must start to hold our president’s feet to the fire. We just can’t go along and complain about how hard life is, the high cost of insurance, or the lack of good jobs out there. It just doesn’t matter unless we do something about it! The right audience is the place to start. Complaining to your coworkers won’t do much besides getting something off your chest unless you work on Capitol Hill or something or you golf with a Presidential Cabinet member.

What I’m trying to point out is, unless the person has the power to do something about it. You will probably just be wasting your time. That’s why the big shots and big money people like to donate money to politicians. It gives them access, access to people who have the power and authority to get things done.

But we also have power if we get together! We have unions, even though they have been assaulted by the oligarchs. We have political organizations, I encourage you to join one. We have school boards, I encourage you to run or get involved. And we can join up with some of the newer movements that have got off the ground in the last few years Black Lives Matter comes to mind.

Go to meetings if you can. Donate if you have the means and join the ranks of people who are on the front lines, trying to gain influence with our elected officials for the good of the country.

President Joe Biden is the most powerful man in our country right now. We need to be bending his ear! Let’s let him know that we want a return on our political investment. The money we gave, the signs we put out. The family members we talked to. Now that President Biden and Vice President Harris got elected, it’s time to do the real work. We need to get their attention as progressives and demand change for our country for the better! “Carpe diem” as they say.

There are times that matter and there are times that really matter! This is one of those times. So let’s seize the day while we still have it! If you like having a decent president then seize the day. If you want better health care seize the day. Don’t fall back on your laurels just because President Biden got in! We could end up with another neo-liberal president that gets nothing done other than restore the old status quo which will surely lead to another Trump-type character misleading an angry population – exactly what the Oligarchs want to happen in the first place!

This is the time to write letters to congresspeople and demand change. And if you are part of a group, put your group’s name down as well. Let’s stand united, let’s stand with purpose, and let’s get behind the common cause of our collective well-being. Better healthcare, infrastructure, good-paying jobs, good schools, and affordable tuition, voter access, and a strong First Amendment are things all Americans want. We must be persistent in our collective efforts. Together, by holding President’s Biden’s feet to the fire, we can change our country for the good!

About Jack Jones

Jack Jones writes for Democracy Chronicles from Chicago’s south suburbs where he grew up. He is a union electrician Local 134, certified minister from Berean University, AYSO board member and coach, basketball coach, Cub Scout leader, husband, father and social participant. Jack considers himself a gourmet junk food chef, political writer, musician and likes to contribute to the world around him. A former deacon and chaplain at Cook County Jail in Chicago, he feels that our out-of-control corporate, religious and political environment is to blame for many of the problems in the world today. Jack believes we need to get money out of politics and that the church should take care of people instead of trying to get hypocrites elected to public office.
