A Moscow court Friday handed a two-year jail sentence to three feminist punk rockers who infuriated the Kremlin and captured world attention by ridiculing President Vladimir Putin in Russia’s main church. EU foreign affairs chief Catherine Ashton immediately called the decision “disproportionate”.

We conclude our live report for the day now, after a Moscow court convicted the three members of protest band Pussy Riot — Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, 22, Maria Alyokhina, 24, and Yekaterina Samutsevich, 30 — to two years in a corrective labour facility. They were handed the sentence for “hooliganism”.
